Jp Morgan Managing Director Charlie Javice Wiki | Bio
Charlie Javice (age:30; born in 1992) was a businesswoman and CEO of Frank, a college financial planning platform, and is facing criminal charges for allegedly committing wire, bank, and securities fraud.
On Tuesday, the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York charged her with wire, bank, and securities fraud. It said that she “falsely and dramatically” exaggerated the number of customers that Frank, her now-shuttered college financial planning company, had in a scheme to “fraudulently induce J.P. Morgan Chase to acquire” her start-up for $175 million.
JPMorgan had previously accused Javice of similar misconduct after acquiring Frank, which claimed to help millions of students and families more easily file for financial aid.
She has been facing four counts. They are one count of conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud, one count of wire fraud affecting a financial institution, one count of bank fraud, and one of securities fraud. Three charges each carry a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
Charlie Javice Early Life and Education
Charlie Javice was born in 1992 and raised in the wealthy area of Westchester County, New York. Her upbringing was privileged, but her parents instilled in her and her brother Elie the importance of giving back to their community.
As teenagers, Charlie and Elie regularly volunteered at a local soup kitchen, where they saw the same faces year after year. Her father, Didier Javice, worked in finance, while her mother, Natalie Javice, was a life coach and former teacher. Her brother, Elie Javice, went on to become the chief digital officer at Popeyes.
Javice, on the other hand, had her sights set on something different. After being admitted early to the prestigious Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, she graduated in just three years with a degree in finance, operations, information & decisions, and law.
While at Wharton, She was known for her friendly demeanor, but some of her classmates felt that she often tried too hard to impress others.
Nonetheless, She was driven to make a difference in the world. In 2011, as a freshman, she founded PoverUp, a grassroots student movement and online platform that aimed to use microfinance for social good.
Her goal was to empower efforts to end poverty with the click of a mouse. It is worth noting that PoverUp’s website had been online since at least 2009 when Charlie was still in high school.
Charlie Javice Professional Career
Javice’s career trajectory is nothing short of impressive. Her journey began in 2009 as an intern at Planet Finance Argentina, where she trained in microfinance portfolio management and helped launch the first micro-insurance product in Argentina.
In 2010, Charlie founded PoverUP, an online platform that connects students, scholars, and professionals to learn, secure, and invest in sustainable solutions to end poverty. She led the company for five years before moving on to her next venture.
She has also served as a special advisor to Wharton Social Impact Programs, where she developed a fellowship program to foster social innovation at Penn.
In 2016, Charlie founded Frank, a financial aid platform for student loans. Under her leadership, Frank was acquired by J.P. Morgan Chase in 2021 and served as Managing Director and Head of Student Solutions at JPMorgan Chase & Co., overseeing student capabilities and products.
